Employee Services

The workforce at Southeast consists of around 170 adults with developmental disabilities. Developmental disabilities are defined as severe chronic disabilities that can be cognitive, physical or both. The disabilities appear before the age of 22 and are likely to be lifelong. Southeast employs individuals with a wide variety of developmental disabilities including:

  • Autism
  • Epilepsy
  • Down syndrome
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Hearing and visual impairment

Southeast not only provides challenging and rewarding employment, but also supports our employees through work skills enhancement and service coordination. Utilizing a “€œperson centered”€ approach helps us focus on the individual and his or her specific, and sometimes unique, needs.

We also assist with community and outside support service referrals and follow-up including:

  • Supported & competitive employment
  • Recreation & social opportunities
  • Housing
  • Transportation
  • Adult education


Pre-admission requirements:

Prospective employee must submit a referral packet to the Program Director.

This packet should include, but not be limited to:

  • Personal information (name, address, social security number, date of birth, etc.)
  • Documentation of disability
  • Vocational history
  • IEPs, PCPs from his or her service coordinator at eitas or KCRO
    (any other diagnostic testing or documentation that will help staff at Southeast better understand the person’s abilities)
  • DMV picture ID
  • Copy of social security card
  • Copy of birth certificate
  • Personal interview/individual evaluation
  • Transportation availability

Age: 16 years and older
Residence: Jackson County

  • Developmentally disabled
  • Able to care for own personal needs
    (feeding, toileting, medications, etc.)
  • Controlled seizures*
  • Not harmful to self or others
  • Ambulatory or mobile non-ambulatory


*Seizures controlled by medication to a degree that they do not significantly interfere with the individual’s ability to work.
